josh homme

i love kyuss for so many reasons, but mostly for josh homme's guitars and his heavy as fuck, brutal rhythm.

he could do no wrong for so long but qotsa is getting stale. time for a line up change (ahem, dave grohl?).

i took these photos of raul and adalita of magic dirt in wangaratta, 18 october 2007. for all of the 2000's, i followed magic dirt around relentlessly on their regional tours. my partner in crime, mikeey and i arrived early to the venue, and dean invited us in to watch soundcheck, where we heard them play the song 'emerald green' for the first time. the show was pretty good, definitely not packed, but featuring a pretty over the top light show. lots of strobe, which was great for the photos.

lennon

just one example of john lennon looking extremely cool. not only did he always look cool, the quality of his musical output throughout his whole beatles and solo career was inhumanly good and consistent.

to me, his peak was the release of the 'plastic ono band' albums. his, with ringo playing drums, has plenty of amazing musical performances, very 'live' sounding cuts. lennons songwriting is masterful, his skill to write self referential lyrics, without cheese-factor or cliche is sadly missing in many artists (i'm looking at you daniel johns). and god, his voice.

yokos album is john, ringo and bassist klaus voormann jamming with yoko 'doing her thing' over the top. this album is what the term 'ahead of its time' must have been invented for.

more nineties

see what i mean? a nu-clear sounds promo shot, my favourite ash era. a heavy, weird album and a multitude of aweseome b-sides. and charlotte, of course.

smoking is cool

when you search for good photos of polly you face an embarrassment of riches.

dean

dean turner, late bassist of magic dirt at the big day out, by sophie howarth.

this is one of my favourite photos of dean. it encapsulates so much that was awesome about him. his left handed ricky jammed in front of TWO ampeg fridges, whilst he's at his pedals concocting some no doubt beautiful noise. show us yer wah wahs!

the nineties

veruca salt. this photo speaks volumes of why i wish the nineties lasted for forever.

best shirts ever

i am constantly searching for shirts like this, and rarely come even close to finding anything that matches their bizarre awesomeness.
